Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Legislation in Maine

Maine established advanced practice registered nursing in 1995 (see Public Law 1995, Chapter 379). This practice is defined in 32 MRS Section 2102(2-A) and (5-A). Advanced practice nursing is further governed by Title 32, Chapter 31, numerous other statutes, and rules promulgated by the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation. This legislative history includes proposed and enacted legislation from 1995 to present related to the regulation, scope of practice, and insurance coverage of advanced practice registered nurses, specifically. It does not include legislation that refers only to certified nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, etc.
